Why People Won’t Go to the Doctor

Introduction:
Recently I was sick for several weeks.  I had picked up a cold, which turned into a sinus infection.  I should have gone to a doctor but didn’t deciding that it would go away over time.  The days went by and I felt worse and worse but I figured I would be getting better soon.  I told myself if I was not better in a few days I would call the doctor.  Days went by and I felt worse and worse.  Finally I picked up the phone and called the doctors office.  I explained what was wrong with me and gave the receptionist my information.  She called back later that day and said the doctor had prescribed an anti-biotic for me to take.  I didn’t need to actually go to the doctors office.  I only had to go to the pharmacy and pick up my medicine.  Within days I was feeling much better.  If only I would have called earlier.

Now anyone can look at my story and see the folly of my ways but spiritually they may do the same thing I did for my sinus infection…. Nothing.  Here are some reasons people wont go to the doctor.

Too Stubborn

(Mark 3:1 KJV)  And he entered again into the synagogue; and there was a man there which had a withered hand.
(Mark 3:2 KJV)  And they watched him, whether he would heal him on the sabbath day; that they might accuse him.
(Mark 3:3 KJV)  And he saith unto the man which had the withered hand, Stand forth.
(Mark 3:4 KJV)  And he saith unto them, Is it lawful to do good on the sabbath days, or to do evil? to save life, or to kill? But they held their peace.
(Mark 3:5 KJV)  And when he had looked round about on them with anger, being grieved for the hardness of their hearts, he saith unto the man, Stretch forth thine hand. And he stretched it out: and his hand was restored whole as the other.

(Isa 46:12 KJV)  Hearken unto me, ye stouthearted, that are far from righteousness:
(Isa 46:13 KJV)  I bring near my righteousness: it shall not be far off, and my salvation shall not tarry: and I will place salvation in Zion for Israel my glory.

Afraid of facing illness

(Acts 18:9 KJV)  Then spake the Lord to Paul in the night by a vision, Be not afraid, but speak, and hold not thy peace:
(Acts 18:10 KJV)  For I am with thee, and no man shall set on thee to hurt thee: for I have much people in this city.
(Acts 18:11 KJV)  And he continued there a year and six months, teaching the word of God among them.

(John 19:6 KJV)  When the chief priests therefore and officers saw him, they cried out, saying, Crucify him, crucify him. Pilate saith unto them, Take ye him, and crucify him: for I find no fault in him.
(John 19:7 KJV)  The Jews answered him, We have a law, and by our law he ought to die, because he made himself the Son of God.
(John 19:8 KJV)  When Pilate therefore heard that saying, he was the more afraid;
(John 19:9 KJV)  And went again into the judgment hall, and saith unto Jesus, Whence art thou? But Jesus gave him no answer.

(John 3:1 KJV)  There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews:
(John 3:2 KJV)  The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him.
(John 3:3 KJV)  Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

Too expensive

(Mat 19:21 KJV)  Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me.
(Mat 19:22 KJV)  But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions.
(Mat 19:23 KJV)  Then said Jesus unto his disciples, Verily I say unto you, That a rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven.
(Mat 19:24 KJV)  And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.

Not convenient enough

(Acts 24:24 KJV)  And after certain days, when Felix came with his wife Drusilla, which was a Jewess, he sent for Paul, and heard him concerning the faith in Christ.
(Acts 24:25 KJV)  And as he reasoned of righteousness, temperance, and judgment to come, Felix trembled, and answered, Go thy way for this time; when I have a convenient season, I will call for thee.

Don’t realize they are sick

(Rev 3:17 KJV)  Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:

Summary

So we see there are many reasons people don’t go to the doctor.  If you haven’t been to your spiritual doctor lately, why haven’t you been?  What is your reason?
